Pallet Strapping Machine Buying Checklist: 10 Questions Before You Decide

Before you buy a pallet strapping machine, run through these ten questions. They cover loads, volume, power, tension, service and ROI — so you choose the right machine, not just the cheapest.

Pallet Strapping Machine Buying Checklist: 10 Questions Before You Decide

Buying the wrong strapping machine is an expensive mistake — a table-top that can’t strap pallets, or an inline system that’s overkill for your volume. Run through these ten questions before you decide, and you’ll choose the machine that fits your operation, not just the lowest price tag.

The 10 questions

1. Are you strapping loaded pallets?

If yes, a semi-automatic table-top machine is out — it only handles small cartons. You need a mobile or inline machine (semi-auto vs fully-auto).

2. What’s your daily pallet volume?

This sets whether a machine pays back and which type fits — often from ~15–30 pallets/day (how many pallets justify a machine).

3. How heavy and dense are your loads?

Heavy, non-compressible loads need high, calibrated tension (to 2500N on the 726X); compressible loads need a strap that recovers tension.

4. Do you export?

Export loads need rust-free PET and seaworthy, consistent tension to avoid container rejections — a stronger case for automation.

5. Do you have power at the dock, or off-grid sites?

The 700 straps without power; the GO and 726X are battery-electric. Match the machine to your power reality.

6. One dock or many?

Mobile machines move between docks; inline systems are fixed. Multiple or changing staging points favour mobile.

7. What strap material do you use?

The GO runs PP, PET, paper, cord and composite; the 726X runs PP/PET. Match to your material.

8. How many operators are on securing now?

Two-person manual securing is the biggest saving opportunity — automation cuts it to one (reduce labour cost).

9. What’s the total cost of ownership, not just price?

The cheapest machine is rarely the lowest cost per pallet once labour, strap waste and damage are counted (reduce packaging cost).

10. Is service and spares available locally?

A machine is only as good as its uptime — confirm on-site service, training and genuine spares in your region.

Run the numbers and prove it

After the ten questions, model the payback in the ROI calculator, then ask for a free on-site demo on your heaviest pallet — the only way to be sure before you buy.

Buying checklist

  • Loaded pallets? (rules out table-top)
  • Daily volume counted
  • Load weight/density assessed
  • Export/rejection risk considered
  • Power situation matched
  • One dock or many
  • Strap material matched
  • Current operators on securing counted
  • Total cost of ownership modelled in ROI calculator
  • Local service + spares confirmed; demo booked

Answer these ten questions and you’ll buy the right pallet strapping machine — the one that fits your loads, volume and budget. Model your fit or request a quote.
